Dryer-less PET/PLA sheet extrusion demands a robust production solution. PTi's HVTSE (High Vacuum Twin Screw Extrusion - technology by Bandera) co-rotating twin screw provides this and more. Due to their hygroscopic nature, PET and PLA materials require pre-drying prior to being extruded. Historically, that meant processors had to invest in large drying systems that consume not only time, but also high amounts of energy in the form of electricity or natural gas.
The patented dryer-less technology employs a single atmospheric and dual high vacuum vent system with a co-rotating twin screw extruder. This unique approach, allows moisture and other volatiles to be removed as part of the extrusion process. In the case of recycled PET, the need for recrystalization of the material is also eliminated. The energy savings from the elimination of these drying and crystallization steps can run upwards of 30-35% over the conventional method.
